Rin Sarun became a monk to learn about the world, to have the freedom to study and pray all day, for years on end. And now that he's left his floating village, and gotten used to life on land, he's not sure he'll go back. Finishing up a few stories for @the_fulbright_program and @natgeo
The village chief of Phluk gets a light after dinner at Mr.Mai's house, which itself is lit by one bulb connected to a car battery. At this point, everyone is getting hammered on rice wine, and a cloud of smoke hangs in the wooden house. Only 2 weeks remain before Cambodia's largest dam is sealed, leaving a lot of uncertainty for what residents of Phluk might do if their fish catch decreases or their river rises.
The sun rises early over the Mekong as a fishing vessel heads out for the day. In a few months, this area, right after the confluence of the Mekong and Sesan River, will be crowded with hundreds of fishing boats.
